Feel like you’re fighting a losing battle? You’ve dusted your entire house 10 times over but 2-3 days later, and it’s like you haven't even touched it.
What’s the deal?
It could be a variety of things, but a common cause is leaky air ducts.
The average home loses 20-30% of the air flowing through the air duct system due to leaks, holes, and loose connections, according to ENERGY STAR.
So, what’s that got to do with dust?
Your air duct system runs throughout your home, carrying conditioned air from your cooling/heating system to your living spaces.
However, if those ducts have holes or leaks in areas like your basement and attic, the ducts suck in the surrounding dust-filled air. So now your air ducts are delivering tons of dust to several rooms in your home.
Basically, dusting your home while you have leaky ducts is like trying to shovel water out of a canoe that has a big hole in it. It’s a waste of time and energy.
Other signs you have leaky ducts:
Your best bet is to hire an HVAC contractor to pressure-test your home to see how bad the leaking is.
If the ducts leak even just 2% of the conditioned air, it’s worth having the contractor seal your ducts because of the energy savings you’ll have.
For the best results, we use something called Aeroseal duct sealing. We can seal your ductwork from the inside using our specialized equipment. This lets us seal all the ducts in your home (even those that aren’t easily accessible).
